WHO WE ARE.
Strathcona County Firefighters Association Local 2461 is a
member of the International Association of Fire Fighters,
representing 215 members of Strathcona County Emergency
Services.
We proudly serve Strathcona County, Alberta and it's 103,829
residents and major industries in both rural and urban areas.
Our County's area of 1268 square kilometers includes the urban
centre of Sherwood Park, rural communities, wildland, farmland
and significant industrial sites, and is the second largest
response area in Alberta!
Strathcona County Fire Fighters affiliated with the International
Association of Fire Fighters on September 16, 1975.
The local originally consisted of 16 members.
The County of Strathcona Fire Department was formed in
1956, though originally called “Sherwood Park Volunteer Fire
Brigade”. The original volunteer brigade was comprised of
both men and women and they operated with a half ton
pickup truck with some hose and a ladder housed in the Fire
chiefs garage.
- In 1972 the County of Strathcona Fire Department started
providing Ambulance coverage.
WHERE WE STARTED.
In Septmber 1975, Strathcona County Firefighters
Association was formed and joined the International
Association of Firefighters as Local 2461.
- Since then, Strathcona Firefighters Association and its
members have stood alongside our community advocating
for public safety and the absolute best in training.

WHAT WE DO.

Working out of four 24/7 full-time halls,
our members staff Advanced life support
Ambulances, Fire and Rescue Apparatus,
as well as our Community Response Units.
Every Firefighter is cross-trained as a
Paramedic, allowing us to seamlessly
transition between providing Fire and
Rescue services into providing Advanced
Lift Support Care.
Whether its a Vehicle Collision or a
Structure Fire, our firefighters can provide
suppression and rescue efforts while
providing a high level of pre-hospital care
before an Ambulance even arrives.
Our dynamic and ever evolving
department is proud to provide the
highest level of service to our community.
Rarely seen but always here is our
incredible team of Emergency
Communication Operators
(ECO's). These talented
individuals are master multitaskers
and are your first point of contact
in an emergency and gather
necessary information for us to
respond to each event
appropriately!
Our ECO team operates 24/7 911
Call Answering and Dispatch for
over 28 different municipalities,
taking an average of 120 calls per
day and serving over 170,000
residents!
EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS.
We also have members working in Fire
Inspection and Investigation, Training,
OH&S, and more!
We do more than fight fires.
We provide a specialized Water Rescue
Team for Strathcona’s many lakes and
the North Saskatchewan River.
WATER RESCUE.
WHAT ELSE DO WE DO?
TECHNICAL RESCUE.
From High Angle Rope, to Collapse, Confined Space and everything in
between, our TR Team is trained and equipped to deal with any rescue.
UAV (DRONE) TEAM.
Giving us a bird’s eye view of everything from Wildland Fires to Water Rescues, our UAV team provides us with the big picture of any scene.

recruit new Full Time Firefighter/ Paramedics to
join the ranks of your Strathcona Firefighters!
With huge growth in the future for Strathcona
County, including a new Full Time Fire Hall in
